Five
Tim Burton movies. . . that I like better than Planet of the Apes. I think the moral of this story is that Burton should always work with either Johnny Depp or Michael Keaton.

Sleepy Hollow (1999) Johnny Depp plays a fussy police inspector on the trail of a serial killer. WHO HAS NO HEAD! Dark, funny and spooky all rolled into one. Burton at his best. |

Ed Wood (1994) Depp again, playing the worst movie director ever as a likably passionate, cross-dressing innocent. WHO HAS NO HEAD! Just kidding. Filmed in black and white, this includes an Academy Award winning performance by Martin Landau as horror great Bela Lugosi. Burton's obvious affection for his subject shows in this hilarious and touching movie. |

Edward Scissorhands (1990) Yes, another Burton/Depp collaboration. The freakily sweet Edward is a truly memorable creation. WITH SCISSORS FOR HANDS! Burton defined "quirky" for a generation with this one. |

Batman (1989) The original and still best. A twisted take on the Dark Knight and everybody's favorite super-villain, The Joker, played here by Jack Nicholson. Batman's Gotham City is a dark and dangerous place and you can tell Burton is just dying to live there. |

Beetlejuice (1988) Full of manic energy, this comedy about the afterworld's most obnoxious inhabitant helped launch the careers of Alec Baldwin, Winona Ryder and Geena Davis. With its frantic pacing, Beetlejuice feels like a live action cartoon. |
