| Analyze
That review by Melissa Prusi |
||||
Shtick abounds in Analyze That, the sequel to the mob-guy-with-a-shrink comedy Analyze This. Robert DeNiro does his tough guy shtick, played for laughs this time. Billy Crystal does his high-strung yuppie shtick. It's amusing, but pretty much the same old same old. This time around, DeNiro's Paul Vitti crazies his way out of prison and into the home of his psychiatrist, Dr. Ben Sobel (Crystal). Because I'm sure all psychiatrists are required to take in their convicted-felon patients. This ludicrous plot point paves the way for tired fish-out-of-water shtick as Vitti bulldozes his way through the lives of Ben and his prickly wife, broadly played to minimal effect by Lisa Kudrow. Billy Crystal is a funny guy and so is DeNiro, especially when he's singing "I Feel Pretty" or having his famous face stretched and kneaded by Crystal. But the whole thing feels played out and stale. Writer/director Harold Ramis and his co-writers Peter Steinfeld and Peter Tolan provide some laughs, but add little to the formula. Truth is, if you've seen This, you've seen That. |
